Bike or no bike?

This is a walking base. You can't own a car so you either walk everywhere, catch a bus (M-F only), pay for a cab (gets expensive), or ride a bike.

So my question is:

Should I buy a bike?

Couple of questions should answer this...

1) do you like riding a bike?
2) will it be easy to get rid of when you're ready to leave?

That should settle it. *grin*

Guess Teresa has that covered, can't add to that.

1. I don't mind riding a bike. What I really don't like is having to wait on a bus for everything.

2. I can always ship it back to the states and give it to the nieces.

I had the same situation at most of my Navy duty stations

My solution:

Buy a cheap-ass 10-speed from the nearest K-mart so that you don't feel bad about just abandoning it when you go to your next duty station (it's also less likely to get stolen than an expensive mountain bike).

Buy the softest, cushiest seat you can find and put it on the bike.

Buy a rear fender so that you don't get that line of dirty water sprayed up your back when you ride through puddles.

Buy either a package carrier and cloth saddlebags, or wire baskets.

This worked great for me in several situations. Your mileage may vary. But the best part is that you can ALWAYS find a great parking space when you ride a bike :-)
