Rainy Sunday morning

Woke up to the rain pouring down outside my open window and onto the skylight in my bathroom. Why DOES someone put a skylight in a bathroom?

10:00 am and it's still as dark as if the sun were just rising. But that's ok, the windows are open, the AC is off, cool clean air is filtering through.

The dogs are in the sunroom, sleeping in their beds. I'm on the couch watching "The American President" and Mama's in the kitchen on her computer, drinking coffee, and watching her morning news.

All is right in my world.

At least you're not having to work out in it. It's nice to listen to the rain and smell the fresh air. I'm glad you're having some moments of peace.

I am enjoying them very much. I know that in a few months, peace will not be a word in my vocabulary so it makes these moments that much more special.

How are you Kathy? And the kids?

I'm doing pretty well. I had some foot surgery about 6 weeks ago and am almost completely recovered from that. I have quit my job in private practice and will be teaching nursing at a local university this spring and summer. The kids and grandkids are all doing well. Josh (my s-i-l) is still in Iraq but expected to be heading home early in December. We're all crossing our fingers that nothing will interfere with that plan. All in all, things are pretty good. I'm so glad that we've been able to keep in touch over the years and the miles. Please keep us all updated on developments in your life. There are so many exciting things happening for you.

I'm glad to know that he'll be home in little over a month. That's got to be such a relief for you, the family, and especially your daughter. I'll say a prayer that he comes home safe and sound in Dec!

I'm glad we've kept in touch too. It's definitely been a long interesting road since the ELBB, eh? LOL

I didn't know you had foot surgery. I'm glad it's all better.

What made you decide to go from private practice to teaching?

I've taught nursing off and on since 1988. It's something I really love, but a teacher needs to have current clinical experience to be sure he/she is giving practical, applicable information to the students. And it helps a lot to have 'war stories' to illustrate important points. For the last couple of years things have been slow at the office. Since I have no base salary, only a production percentage, it has been hard to make a living. I kept holding on, thinking that things would get better. But the owner of the practice has hired someone else and made the appointments policy work so that I'm squeezed out again. I've had enough of working where I'm not appreciated. So I'm going to teach nurse practitioner students and take my time looking for another part-time clinical job. I've been at this practice 7 full years come the end of November. It's time to move on.

Yes, life has changed for all of us in the interval since the EL BB started. Change is not bad. Change is an indication that you are still alive. And those precious babies will change you from the inside out in ways you wouldn't have thought possible.
